Black Single Net
Single Net and Double nets are commonly used in film and photography to control light intensity without altering color temperature or introducing harsh shadows. They are part of grip equipment and come in different densities.
1. Single Net
Light Reduction: Reduces light by approximately 1/2 stop.
Use: Used for subtle light control, often in situations where only slight exposure adjustments are needed.
Appearance: A finer mesh that minimally affects the overall contrast and sharpness of the scene.
Common Application: Ideal for soft light reduction on faces or backgrounds when only a minor decrease in brightness is required.
2. Double Net
Light Reduction: Reduces light by approximately 1 full stop.
Use: Used when more light control is necessary, without resorting to diffusion or ND filters.
Appearance: A denser net that has a more noticeable effect on exposure.
Common Application: Often used outdoors to control harsh sunlight or indoors when managing practical lighting.
Other Considerations
Nets are often placed in C-stands with grip arms or attached to frames to allow flexibility in shaping light.
They can be black (to cut light) or white (to soften without reducing exposure).
Nets should be used carefully in windy conditions, especially outdoors.
